Crater view eco apartment is a two-bedroom, one bathroom, living and kitchenette self-contained hempcrete apartment with a large balcony. Even though it is joined to our home it is very private, with separate access and provides year-round luxury. We are on the edge of the crater of Tower Hill (famed for its wildlife) and part of Koroit township (famed for its Irish festival). This is a perfect location to explore Tower Hill and is 15 minutes’ drive from the picturesque Port Fairy and bustling Warrnambool and ten minutes from Killarney Beach
Want to come to a great place to relax in comfort, watch the emus and kangaroos walk by and enjoy the sunset over Port Fairy? Our property was built with a large, covered balcony to take advantage of the stunning views over the crater of Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve and the Southern Ocean beyond.
We know what it’s like to come to a new place for the night and we like to provide a full breakfast for your first morning, with eggs from our chickens, jams, marmalade and fruit, veg and flowers from our garden when in season
We encourage you to enjoy our garden, talk to the chooks, meet our very friendly dog Dot and have a coffee at the table and chairs in the garden bed outside your bedroom windows.
The house and apartment are the realisation of a lifelong dream for us as we have always wanted to design and build a sustainable home that would last for many generations. We chose to build with hempcrete due to its amazing sustainability characteristics such as, the hemp for this house being grown in 5 months on 1.25 hectares, it’s high thermal mass, great insulation characteristics longevity and fire resistance. The building itself has only just been completed in 2024.
We hope you enjoy your stay.
Guests will need to be able to carry their luggage one flight up and down the outside stairs as shown in the photos/video to get access to the apartment from the parking spot at the base of the stairs. You will be provided with the key code pass either the day before or on the day of your arrival ( assuming you have not downloaded the Yale app).
We are travellers ourselves and live next door and are very pleased to help with any queries, places to go or things to do. Also happy to chat about our sustainable build or show you around the garden (we’re usually in there anyway, so come and say hi)! If you would prefer a private, quite stay that is fine also. We will leave that up to you.
Koroit is a small town in South West Victoria with a strong Irish heritage. Crater View is located on the southern edge of Koroit, but within easy walking or driving distance from the centre of town where there is the famous Micky Bourke Pub, Noodledoof Brewery and cafe and the newly opened Stonefield Lane Wine Bar. Koroit also has a very good supermarket IGA), pharmacy and laundry. There are two main restaurants, the high end Izzys and an excellent Little Thai House restaurant. There are also several small pizza and local take away eateries.
Tower Hill reserve is just across the road from the apartment and there are several walking access points to the reserve along Lake View Road. The main driving access point to the centre of the crater is just off the Princess Highway approx 3.5kms from Crater View apartment. From there there are also several walks available, plus a picnic area and BBQ's.
The nearest beach to Crater View is Killarney Beach. A spectacular, unpopulated beach with beautiful white sand and several small bays protected by ancient larval flows which solidified on reaching the sea, providing wave protected swimming bays along the coast, both in Killarney and Port Fairy.
Port Fairy itself can be seen across the bay from Crater View and is only a 15 minute drive away. Port Fairy is a very attractive seaside town, known for its music festivals, restaurants, cafes and wonderful beaches and river.
On the other side of Koroit is Warrnambool, the largest town in the area. It is just 15 minutes drive again. Warrnambool has a larger selection of shops along with fantastic beach and river walks. Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village and Deep Blue Hot Springs are among many of its attractions.
The best way to get around the area is by car, but there is a regular bus service if required.
A photo ID may be required to be seen on arrival.
