A place where nature sets the pace — and comfort comes naturally.

Tower Hill Nature Reserve

A front-row seat to one of Victoria’s great natural wonders

Tower Hill Nature Reserve is a rare and relatively undiscovered gem, offering visitors the chance to experience native wildlife in its natural habitat — unspoilt, accessible, and deeply atmospheric. Formed within an extinct volcano, the reserve is a place of quiet drama, open skies, and constant natural movement.

Staying at Craterview Eco Apartment places you directly opposite the reserve, with several walking access points just along Lake View Road. Step outside and you are already immersed in one of the region’s most extraordinary landscapes.

Wildlife encounters, naturally

Tower Hill is renowned for its abundance of wildlife, and sightings are not a matter of luck — they are part of everyday life here. Guests can expect to see:

  • Koalas, emus, and kangaroos on almost every visit
  • Wallabies, echidnas, and a wide variety of native birdlife if you take your time and look closely

Early mornings and late afternoons are particularly rewarding, when the reserve is at its most peaceful and active.

Walks, picnics, and crater views

For those wishing to explore further, the main driving entrance to the heart of the crater is located just off the Princes Highway, approximately 3.5 kilometres from Craterview. From the central car park, you’ll find:

  • A network of scenic walking tracks suitable for all levels
  • Picnic areas and BBQ facilities
  • Elevated viewpoints looking across the volcanic crater and lakes

If you’d like to enjoy a picnic within the reserve a picnic basket is available in the apartment.

Slow down. Stay awhile.

Our stay was absolutely wonderful, thanks to our incredibly kind and hospitable hosts! Cathreena and Mark went above and beyond to make us feel welcome—providing delicious breakfast ingredients, fresh fruits from their own garden, and homemade jam. They even gave us a tour of their beautiful garden and orchard!
The house itself was a delight: thoughtfully designed and decorated, and impeccably clean, with a lovely fragrance that made it feel extra cozy.
We enjoyed our two days here and are so grateful to have met such amazing hosts. Highly recommend!

Cathreena and Mark are generous and charming hosts. They have created a beautiful property that not only captures a stunning view of the crater lake but also the ocean. The house provides a sense of serenity and calm with timber features, high ceiling in the living area looking out to the view.
The provision of fruit from their garden and breakfast supplies was very generous.
The proximity to Port Fairy and Koroit attractions and the restful calm of this property made my stay spectacular.
This is an area and property worth visiting.
