Welcome to Crater View Boutique Eco Apartment.
This house and apartment was built between July 2022 and the final touches were finished in March 2024. Your hosts Cathreena and Mark wanted to build a house that was very sustainable in nature, would last many generations, is extremely thermally efficient, is non-flammable, is solar powered and at end of life the walls could be mulched.
We decided to build with hempcrete as the hemp for our house would have taken 5 months to grow on 5 acres of land and when the hemp is mixed with the limecrete and poured to make the walls it absorbs CO2 over time to solidify the walls into calcium carbonate (limestone). We also used triple glazing in order that the windows and walls would have similar insulation values. We have found that we don’t need to use air conditioning to maintain a constant temperature in the house. For those that are interested and if we are around we are happy to talk about the materials and construction process.

Tower Hill
Tower Hill is a relatively undiscovered gem where visitors meet native species in their natural environment. You are guaranteed to see koalas, emus and kangaroos and if you look carefully you will also see wallabies, echidnas and a variety of native birds. Tower Hill reserve is just across the road from your place and there are several walking access points to the reserve along Lake View Road. The main driving access point to the centre of the crater is just off the Princess Highway approx 3.5kms from Crater View apartment. From the car park there are many walks available, plus a picnic area and BBQ's. If you would like to picnic in Tower Hill please just let us know and we can help provide some provisions for you. View our Gallery for more images of Tower Hill.

Koroit
Koroit is a small town in South West Victoria with a strong Irish heritage.
The Crater View apartment is located on the southern edge of Koroit, but within easy walking or driving distance from the centre of town where there is the famous Mickey Bourke Pub, Noodledoof Brewery and cafe and the newly opened Stonefield Lane Wine Bar.
Koroit also has a very good supermarket (IGA), pharmacy and laundry. There are two main restaurants, the high end Izzys and an excellent Little Thai House restaurant. There are also several small pizza and local take away eateries.
Walking to Koroit is very pleasant and if you go down Anzac Avenue will go straight through the very pleasant botanic gardens before going on to high street and down to Commercial Road.
The nearest beach to Crater View is Killarney Beach. A spectacular, unpopulated beach with beautiful white sand and several small bays protected by ancient larval flows which solidified on reaching the se a, providing wave protected swimming bays along the coast, both in Killarney and Port Fairy.
Port Fairy itself can be seen across the bay from Crater View (look to the right, west, from the balcony) and is only a 15 minute drive away. Port Fairy is a very attractive and popular seaside and tourist town, known for its music festivals, restaurants, cafes and wonderful beaches and river.
On the east side of Koroit is Warrnambool, the largest town in the area. It is just 17 minutes drive away. Warrnambool has a larger selection of shops along with fantastic beach and river walks. Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village and Deep Blue Hot Springs are among many of its attractions

Our stay was absolutely wonderful, thanks to our incredibly kind and hospitable hosts! Cathreena and Mark went above and beyond to make us feel welcome—providing delicious breakfast ingredients, fresh fruits from their own garden, and homemade jam. They even gave us a tour of their beautiful garden and orchard!
The house itself was a delight: thoughtfully designed and decorated, and impeccably clean, with a lovely fragrance that made it feel extra cozy.
We enjoyed our two days here and are so grateful to have met such amazing hosts. Highly recommend!

Cathreena and Mark are generous and charming hosts. They have created a beautiful property that not only captures a stunning view of the crater lake but also the ocean. The house provides a sense of serenity and calm with timber features, high ceiling in the living area looking out to the view.
The provision of fruit from their garden and breakfast supplies was very generous.
The proximity to Port Fairy and Koroit attractions and the restful calm of this property made my stay spectacular.
This is an area and property worth visiting.
